Design a Multi-Tenant SaaS Platform

Design a Multi-Tenant SaaS Platform

Requirements

•Support onboarding new tenants with isolated data storage
•Implement a role-based access control system scoped per tenant (owner, admin, member, viewer)
•Enforce per-tenant plan limits (e.g., max users, max projects, API rate limits)
•Issue and manage API keys for service-to-service access within a tenant scope
•Produce monthly usage reports per tenant for billing integration

Non-Functional Requirements

•Zero cross-tenant data leakage (hard requirement)
•Support 10,000 tenants, each with up to 500 users
•Plan limit enforcement adds < 5ms latency per API call
•API key validation < 5ms (cache-backed)

Constraints

•Tenants are organizations (B2B SaaS); users belong to exactly one organization
•The platform hosts a project management application (the specific app is illustrative, not the focus)
•No data from one tenant should ever be accessible by another tenant

Evaluation Criteria

Evaluation criteria and weights will be revealed after you submit your solution. This ensures a fair assessment of your design skills.
